Happy Holiladays!

Meet my favorite Christmas present: Lila.

For the uninitiated ("people who did not receive a squealy phone call last Saturday night"), that's pronounced "Lyla" rather than "Leela". It doesn't matter too much, because she responds just as well to "Poops" and "Hey you! No!" as to her own name anyway. She's three-and-a-half months old and 27 pounds of currently-parasite-free hell on paws.

We have a smorgasbord of breeds to choose from when discussing her heritage. The most popular choices are:
A. German shepherd/boxer
B. shepherd/pit bull, and
C. shepherd/wolfhound.

The vet votes for the wolfhound mix. So...yeah, we're probably just going to go with that, even though it means she's going to be bigger than our actual house.

So it's been sort of slow to take hold for us this year, but finally the Christmas spirit has infiltrated our casita. I think getting Lila kick-started the season for us. We picked out a tree this past Friday, sorted through the cd cases for the holiday music, and began the cookie-making process in earnest yesterday night.

So far we're up to:
1. Peanut Butter Kiss cookies
2. Jam-filled Spoon cookies (I don't care HOW many of you don't cook - I WILL be posting this recipe before the end of the season. They are THAT good.)
3. Mini Black-and-White Cake-y cookies (adorable and extremely Guatemalan-friendly if that's something that makes it for you)
4. Citrus Sugar Cut-out cookies (still in dough form in the fridge)

Oh, and we have half a ramada erected over the patio, just in time to string a few lights on, preferably in the shape of a star, for my annual Cookie Open House this coming Saturday.

And, while I'm here, I'd like to give a shout-out to me because I just got a new job!

Finally, while we're on the subject of random things that are different from how they used to be, I've set the blog so that anyone, account-holders or not, can leave comments. Just select "other" and insert your name - or heckle me using the always-popular "anonymous" option. Come on, peeps! Affirm me! Make me look popular in front of Wingal!

To recap, here's one more picture of the dog:

Seriously. I am so in love.

Ummm...I'm totally gaying myself out here (and providing indubitable proof, if any was needed, that I have way too much time on my hands), but check out Lila's new blog at www.doginprogress.blogspot.com. That's where most of her pictures will end up.

Congratulations on your new roommate! I'm well acquainted with the lure of the puppy. (Case in point - mine appropriates about two-thirds of the bed for herself every night. For some reason, I've allowed this to continue for three years.) Have fun with her (and enjoy your cookies)!

based on paw size, I'm guessing that in a few months, Lila will not only take over the bed, but the pillows will go mysteriously missing...

What kind of dog do you have? A big one, or just a small space-hogging one?

Jen:
I'm loving that very doggy face that Lila projects so fetchingly in the last picture. She's a beauty. No wonder you are smitten.
And now, here goes....HOORAY FOR JENNY, WHO HAS PROVEN HERSELF HIRE-ABLE!
